Skin Conditions
As a makeup artist there are may different skin conditions that you need to be aware of and need to look out for when doing makeup. The best way to not pass on skin conditions is through good working practices, as a makeup artist you need to think about being hygienic at all times, don't double dip, make sure you clean your brushes properly and kill germs with
alcohol and by scraping product with a clean spatula as to not contaminate any makeup.
Some common skin conditions you need to be aware of as a makeup artist are;
- Impetigo - Impetigo usually develops on the face or hands, it is an infection where blisters appear and burst and leaves yellow crusty patches, the skin underneath will be red and inflamed. Impetigo can be spread by close contact and by sharing things like towels, do not apply makeup on someone with impetigo.
- Psoriasis - Psoriasis causes red flaky patches on the skin, they look shiny and can cause itching or burning. Psoriasis is not contagious.

Ringworm - Ringworm is common on the head, body, feet and nails, it is caused by a fungus that grows in a patch on the skin, it can look silvery or can grow blisters and ooze, ringworm is contagious and can be passed on between sharing of things like towels.
- Acne - Acne is a skin condition it can be caused by many different things, acne is not contagious, however special measures may need to be used as the skin may be very sensitive.
- Rosacea - Rosacea is an inflammatory condition of the face characterised by redness, again this is not contagious but the skin can be very sensitive.
- Cold Sores - Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus and are small or large blisters that appear round the mouth or nose, these blisters are extremely contagious.
- Dermatitis - Dermatitis is a rash that is common on the scalp and face, this is not infectious.
