Contemporary portraits that suggest wealth
When I was looking for my contemporary version of a portrait I looked to Instagram as this is the most common place that you find portraiture at the moment. I looked at the Kardashian family because they are renowned for flaunting their wealth all over instagram.
I chose to study this image from Scott Disick's instagram, the reason I chose it was because of the blatant amount of money that is in the image. Scott Disick is the former husband to Khloe Kardashian and is estimated to have a net worth of about $12 million. I chose this image where he is posing in front of a mansion, next to a car which even has the personalised number plate LORD.
From this image you can tell that he is very upper class, and that he owns the car and house rather than just being a random person posing for a photo, his age looks about early to middle 30's as it is unusual to have this much wealth at such an early age.
Another reason why I feel that he is posing in front of his house is his casual attire, although the clothes he is wearing are undoubtedly expensive, he is wearing frayed jeans, and his shirt is buttoned down, this is a very informal and relaxed way to dress although is still smart and will be a lot better dressed than most people.
The way this portrait is laid out suggests that the sitter is very sure of himself, as you can see from his car it states LORD, so he blatantly thinks very highly of himself as he is referring to himself as a person or deity that has authority, control or power over others.
