My Symbolysm Selfie

My Symbolism Selife

After looking at symbolism in Elizabethan portraiture and modern day portraiture we were asked to take a symbolism selfie and to use objects in this which symbolise who you are as a person.

Personally this was a really hard task for me, I could not think of many things that are symbolic to my life, so I decided to take a more fun, light hearted approach.

The things I chose to show in the selfie was a sieve, a skull and also a dark lip colour.

The reason I showed myself wearing a sieve on my head is because of the quote "memory like a sieve" this is because I have such a ditzy personality and I am very prone to forget things. It is a running joke between my family and friends about how ditzy I can be.

I have chosen to include a skull too because this can represent many different things, the main symbolic references that mean something to me is that it can symbolise change, this change was me taking the step to go to university, I have moved all the way to Southampton from Darlington, which is over 300 miles away in the North East, it has been such a big change for me to adapt to a new lifestyle down here completely away from anyone I know. The other reference that is symbolic to me is its annotations to vanity, I hand on heart am a very vain person, and I somehow  believe this is what sparked my interest in make-up.

I have also deliberately shown me with a dark lip in this photograph, this is because these dark red and purple colours to me are symbolic of my love of autumn and winter, I love how in winter you have dark mornings and dark evenings, and the beautiful deep hue's that come into fashion because of these seasons, so I always relate a dark lip to these times. Most of my favourite memories has come for these two seasons.

And finally, I included a silly selfie, this is symbolic for me as a person as I would rather make a joke out of something that I feel uncomfortable doing, rather than admitting how I feel. It is also symbolic of how I don't take life to seriously, it is something that should be fun, and I am following this every day by pursuing a career that I love.
