Analogous, Complimentary & Monochromatic Make-up Designs

Analogous, Complimentary & Monochromatic Makeup Designs.

To get me used to working on face charts to design makeup I have designed 3 makeup looks that tie in with colour theory, one will be analogous, one complimentary and the other will be monochromatic.

Analogous

An analogous colour scheme uses colours that are next to each other on the colour wheel, and for this design I decided to use blue and purple. I have created a futuristic look for either an editorial campaign or a catwalk. The face will be heavily contoured, the brows angular and an ombre blue lip. I also wanted to use the colour on the neck to create a sharp jawline.

 Complimentary

A complimentary colour scheme is created by using colours that are opposite on the colour wheel. I have chosen to do a twist on a 1920's design inspired by John Galliano & Pat McGraths work. I chose to use yellow and purple as these colours will clash, unfortunately I could not get the opacity of colour needed on the face chart.

Monochromatic

A monochromatic colour scheme is a makeup done only using one colour, I have chosen to use different shades of orange as this ties in with the Elizabethans and will be best used on a white base, this is also my favourite makeup that I have designed out of the three. In this I have used MAC Melon pigment and mixing medium to make a custom lip and also graphic eyeliner (See monochromatic makeup application.)

I have struggled with creating face charts, I believe that you can get an idea of the make-up that I would like to create but it could be a lot better, when I am designing my face charts for my final makeup designs I need to start looking at putting in details, after I thought I had completed some of my designs I have realised that I have not shaded in the nose, and in some of them the shading on the face looks mucky and uneven, I need to spend more time on this and perhaps use different colours to get a better base.
