Contouring
You Will Need...
To begin the makeup application you need to make sure that the model is covered up so none of the product will fall down onto their clothes, and by using the techniques that were used in the base application, apply an even base to the model prior to the contouring application. Do not set the makeup.
- Start by feeling your way around the face, map out the face lightly with a light colour all along the high points of the face, the cheekbones, above the eyebrows, and down the nose.
- Then using a darker colour, I used a dark colour from the derma colour palette, apply this to all the areas that you want to bring in, under the cheekbones, the temples, hairline, sides of nose and jawline.
- Start slowly and build up these products making sure that there is no harsh lines, if you are having trouble finding the cheekbones get your model to suck their cheeks in.
- If you are finished using cream or grease products powder the face liberally until it is not sticky to the touch, use the back of your hand.
- After the face is powdered you can start to build up with powder products to deepen the contour and also as a blush.
- To blend out hard lines, get some loose powder on a puff and buff away the edges for a soft finish. These lines need to be blended as they will be picked up on camera.
I really enjoyed my contouring lesson, it was good to learn how to feel your way around the face and step back and look at how you are shaping the face. For my contouring I only used powder products, I believe that my final contouring looks good, but I was very rushed on the day as I went second and we didn't manage our time very well. If I was to do this makeup again I would have used cream products, this was because when I was doing my base application I got ahead of myself and powdered the makeup (oops!!) and I think that it would of looked a lot better if it was a little bit deeper. I also think that when I do this again I will include more shading around the jaw, nose and eye socket as these bits look a bit bland.
**HEALTH AND SAFETY**
- Check for contagious skin conditions on the face.
- Make sure all your products are clean and sanitised.
- Be careful of contact lenses.
