Once Illamasqua Fall Collection 2014
Once is the beauty of the burnished, eroded and erudite. A palette inspired by the gentle and exquisite point when a flower starts to fade and becomes impossibly beautiful in its complex decline. Combined with the subtle opulence of faded gilt layers that reveal themselves the more you blend and search. She is an incandescent moment, a poem alive and a light within a pallet of decaying decadence. – Alex Box, Illamasqua’s Creative Director

Illamasqua's 'Once' collection came out in Fall 2014, I have used the images from the advertisement because some aspects of the makeup remind me of the Elizabethans. I love the use of dusty metals that have been used in the images, metallic colours like bronze, gold and silver make me instantly think of the Elizabethans because of the nobility, the sheer amount of wealth that they had, the way that they have made them look worn out, this perfectly symbolises the idea of decay that Alex Box talks about in the quote that I have shown above.
I found this decay symbolic, as I have chosen Elizabeth Brydges as my lady in waiting, in the end she is left to decay, poor and alone, and using flowers could be a much more subtle way to show decay and greif rather than by just using dark colours, in a way using lighter colours can look more haunting, which is the look that I am after for my Elizabethan lady in waiting. The flowers could be symbolic, because roses are often used as a symbol of love, decaying roses could symbolise her failed romances, and lillies are associated with funerals, in which she attended for Queen Elizabeth.
The other thing that made me think of the Elizabethans was the pale skin and the generous application of rouge, although this is a much more modern version as the rouge is pinkier and the skin is smoother.
