Sugar Skulls
For Halloween we created a sugar skull makeup inspired by the day of the dead, we had 45 minutes to complete this task and could use any products that we wanted. I started off by looking at pictures of sugar skulls on Pintrest to get some inspiration. I wanted to do a different take on the sugar skull, more like a contemporary version. My main inspiration came from Samantha from batalash beauty, I liked her interpretation as she uses whites and neutral colours. The second picture is just a picture I found on pintrest, I like this because of the use of adornment and how detailed it is.What I used...
- Illamasqua skin base foundation
- Illamasqua liquid metals palette
- Kryolan essence palette
- Illamasqua loose set powder
- Supracolour palette
I started my design my lightly mapping out where I wanted the features to be on the face, the eye socket, the teeth and also the nose, I decided to use gold, just because I wanted to make my design look different to the versions I had found on Pintrest, then I filled in and shaded around these sections to create a depth to the face. added highlight to bring out parts of the make-up and added decorative flowers. I am very pleased with my final look, it was completely different to anything anyone else was creating on the day, I'm pleased with my choice of colours being browns, because it looks like natural shading, however in some lights it looks like an aging makeup as it makes the face look very gaunt. We only had 45 minutes to create this makeup, so if I was going to do it again I would have wanted to create a full face as I believe this would have been really striking, I would have also added more shading round the eye socket and added some fake eyelashes and adornment like jewels and glitter.
