Design Practice 1

Design Practice 1

This is the face chart for my partners design, the design includes a sharp black eye with a nude lip and contouring.

Products Needed

  • Moisturiser/ Primer - Illamasqua satin primer.
  • Foundation - Kryolan lightest shade
  • Concealer - Dermacolour palette lightest shade
  • Powder - Illamasqua loose set
  • Blush/ Bronzer - None
  • Highlight/ Contour - Illamasqua Sculpt palette.
  • Eyeshadow 1 - MAC French Clay
  • Eyeshadow 2- Illamasqua Obsidion
  • Liner - Black
  • Mascara - Black and Lashes
  • Lip Liner - Rimmel - Cappuccino
  • Lip Colour - LC142
This is how I first tried to execute the design, I started by blending the black all round the eye to give it a soft appearance as this is how I interpreted the design from the face chart, however I took the black a little bit too far down under the eye due to trying to blend it out. After speaking to my designer it turns out that she wants the shape to be sharp rather than blended, and she is going to adapt the face chart accordingly to show this. So I went in with a bit of foundation on my foundation brush and started to carve out the edges to make it more sharp. From this picture on the left you can see that all the edges need to be sharper as this was when I was trying to blend the eyeshadow out.

In these two images you can see that I have cleaned up  the lines of the black shadow and the design is starting to look a lot better visually. I tried to do one line under the eye slightly curved (left) and one completely straight (right) and me and my designer decided on doing the line slightly curved as this was the most flattering for her face shape.

I am not as comfortable as I would like to be with this design however I am mindful that it is only my first attempt, one of the things I have learnt from this practice is that my model has really dry skin, so I will have to remember to lather the skin in moisturiser to get the foundation to sit better on her skin. I want to practice creating this design with masking tape or a stencil so I don't have to keep going in with foundation as this could make the skin look muddy, so this is what I will try in my last practice.

The things me and my designer agreed with each other for me to improve on are to :
  • Neaten up the contour as it is a little bit too harsh
  • Try a different colour on the lips as we have decided that it doesn't work too well.
  • Experiment with stencils
  • Take the black further down the nose so it is pointier.
  • And use the softer more curved line under the eye.
