Final Ideas for Lady in Waiting Presentation

Final Ideas for Lady in Waiting Presentation.

In todays seminar we had to communicate our ideas and thought processes behind our designs for our ladies in waiting to the class through a PowerPoint presentation. During these two seminars we got to see everyone else's designs and motivations behind their ideas and also how they related to the characters that they are building. We had to research our chosen lady in waiting, give them a back story, and then link three designs to this.

I was extremely nervous to do my PowerPoint, standing up in front of people to try and express my thoughts and ideas is literally my worst nightmare, I really enjoyed creating my power point, it was great seeing all my thoughts and inspirations put down into one thing, it is something that I will use to keep my ideas fresh in my mind, as I am prone to wandering onto different ideas, I need to keep myself set on one goal instead of letting my mind wander. However I really disliked telling people about these ideas, because I feel like my thought processes towards a design are quite personal, and it is embarrassing trying to communicate these to other people, however this is a skill that I need to learn to be successful in this industry.

During this presentation I had a massive slip up, I spent hours creating my presentation and did not save it properly, which meant that when I was presenting to the class, I could only present half of my PowerPoint, I have learnt from this to always check that I have saved my work properly, this lead to difficulties in me remembering what I had to talk about, so next time that I have to present my work to the class I think I will write some notes or prompts, just to keep me on track and help me remember what I want to talk about.

Whilst I was doing my presentation, the class wrote feedback on my designs and ideas, the feedback that I received was;
  • Maybe buy a cheap wig and style it short, this can be styled prior to the shoot.
  • Interesting ideas linking to fading, decay and rust - good concepts. Keep the Elizabethan references - make sure you can still link.
  • Liked the dark metallic look
  • Need to practice to pin point the final design.
  • If using a wig could cut short and crimp to reference the previous hairstyles.
  • Loved the way you made your lady in waiting a completely new character. I liked the fact that you made her darker and I love your references and inspiration.
  • Love the reference to decay.
  • Really like the tear/ lipgloss/ pigment idea, simple ideas for makeup are so effective.
  • What about the hair? What about a messy updo with a centre parting.

I was extremely pleased with my feedback, because I was so nervous about presenting my ideas I was astounded with my feedback, everyone was so supportive and had some great ideas for my work. After this powerpoint, I need to go and try out all of my designs, and see which one will suit my ideas the best, and I also need to go and experiment with techniques to give my partner an effective plan on how to create my look. The piece of feedback that really hit home to me was 'make sure you keep your Elizabethan references - make sure that you can still link.' I feel that this person really grasped how I am as a person when designing, I tend to run off on too many different ideas and get too far away from my original concept, so after seeing this I need to refine my research, to make sure that it is all relevant and that it can be seen as Elizabethan.
