Historical Elizabethan Makeup Application
Today we did a historical Elizabethan make-up application, using white Supracolour to colour the eyebrows and eyelashes, this is a skill that will be transferable to our makeup designs.
You Will Need...
- Illamasqua skin base
- Kabuki Brush
- Supracolour Palette
- Lipstick Palette
- Kryolan Blush Palette
- Illamasqua Loose Set
To achieve this historical makeup application we used Illamasqua skin base, and buffed it in with a kabuki bush, then set it with Kryolan loose set powder. Then using a disposable mascara wand, apply the white surpacolour to the eyebrows and eyelashes, to apply to the eyebrows, use the Supracolour and brush this through the brows backwards, and with the eyelashes gently apply or ask your model to apply the product. Then we applied blush to the apples of the cheeks, making sure not to blend it up as this is a more contemporary way to apply the blush. Then apply the lips.
These are my images of my makeup historical Elizabethan makeup application. The part of the application that I feel I did well was the white base, I achieved a good even coverage and I made sure that I got it right into the ears and down the neck, however I encountered some struggles as I didn't moisturise the skin, and my model has very dry skin, and it started to separate on the nose and go a bit funny, this is something that I will need to keep in mind when doing my partners makeup for my assessment. Another one of the weaknesses I had when applying the makeup was my lip application, it was so hard to keep this historical, and I ended up doing a really defined contemporary lip, which I believe ruined the look, it has made it look really doll like rather than Elizabethan. If I was to do this look again I would like to experiment with using Supracolour and alcohol to make a wash, I believe this would make the makeup look a lot more historically accurate.
